OUR MISSION STATEMENT

Bolton Street Synagogue is an open Jewish community rooted in tradition. We are dedicated to fostering a love for God, Jewish culture, learning and prayer in a participatory and intimate environment.

OUR VALUES STATEMENT

The Bolton Street Synagogue community believes that its success has been influenced by certain basic principles or core values. Core values serve as the foundation upon which the synagogue operates and outline the framework upon which Bolton Street will meet the needs of its congregation. We warmly welcome all, including interfaith couples and families, and lesbian, gay, transsexual or transgender individuals and families.

  • We foster an atmosphere of joyful Jewish observance and culture, characterized by openness and informality. All ages are celebrated and welcomed and we try to create a sense of belonging, personal support and family.
  • We value participation, make decisions democratically and attempt to ensure that the voices of members are heard.
  • We place a high priority on providing a quality Jewish education for our children. We strive to develop programs to meet the continuing educational desires of all our members.
  • We embrace Jewish traditions while being open to new interpretations of religious expression.
  • We are committed to celebrating, supporting and providing Jewish life-cycle rituals for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual, or transgender members and for the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transsexual and transgender individuals with strong ties to Bolton Street Synagogue (e.g. child of member), including same-sex commitment ceremonies (and weddings, if/when they become legalized). A couple may choose to have their commitment ceremony in the sanctuary and to have the ceremony officiated by the Bolton Street Synagogue rabbi. Synagogue guidelines concerning interfaith weddings shall apply equally to interfaith commitment ceremonies.

Our religious school is family-oriented. Parents from our congregation teach our students and administer our programs. Our curriculum is highly innovative and integrated, enabling our children to learn Hebrew quickly and to become comfortable in a Jewish environment. The Bolton Street Synagogue is dedicated to helping our members individually and as families to achieve a fuller, more meaningful Jewish life.

For more information on the religious school, contact our principal.
