ISRAEL AT 60 BROUGHT US ALL TOGETHER On Sunday May 11, 2008 the meadow behind the synagogue building was transformed into a mix of music, games, crafts, food and, most importantly, the members of Bolton Street Synagogue as over 250 people came together to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the birth of modern day Israel in 1948. I could write forever thanking all the parents, teachers, tutors, assistant teen teachers, Klezzazz, Cantor Rubinstein and Meir Panim for making the day so special and meaningful. I could single out Nathalie and her falafel crew or Leeann for putting together all the signs and getting us the beautiful blue bracelets or Aaron for coming so early to set up and staying so late to clean up with Elisabeth. And while I only mention a few persons by name, I can only say that the whole day was really special because those individuals and so many more all came together to make the day what it was. I was so touched by the joint effort by so many members of our synagogue community who gave up so much of their time to bring it all together. I was excited that the students had such a good time and that the whole day had a beautiful musical accompaniment for young and old. But watching and being part of such a wonderful group of individuals who pulled it all together was what made me feel like we are a real family of people who care about what we do and who care about each other. I can only hope that 15 years from now when we celebrate Israel at 75, our children will follow in our footsteps to make it happen all over again. I think that the example we set for them will give them the impetus to do it. When you care about what you do and you care about the people you do it with, only good things will happen. It was my distinct privilege to be a part of such a memorable day for Israel and for all those who feel that Israel's survival and future are intertwined with our own future. Let us move forward next year with the same energy we used in May 2008 to ensure the growth of our school, our synagogue and our community . Have a wonderful summer break and we will see you on Sunday, September 7th for the first day of school. Shalom, |
