Bolton Street Synagogue's "Uncommon Voices" series began as an inaugural year celebration following the synagogue's move to Roland Park. We hosted a series of "welcoming" events for our members, new neighbors and others. Last year's programs included former Baltimore Orioles sports announcer Jon Miller, United States Senator Paul Sarbanes and a concert by The Baltimore Choral Arts Society. The series was so well received that we decided to continue it this year.

Unlike many of our activities essentially for our congregation members, we welcome neighbors and nonmembers to "Uncommon Voices" events in order to show them our new home.

On Sunday, January 16 at 3:00 pm, Bolton Street Synagogue welcomes authors Laura Lippman and David Simon as part of our Uncommon Voices series.

Laura Lippman (right) is a Baltimore-based novelist, whose books have won virtually every award given for United States crime fiction. Her most recent mystery, By a Spider's Thread, involves the disappearance of members of an Orthodox Jewish family living in Upper Park Heights.

David Simon is a Baltimore-based author, journalist and writer-producer of television specializing in criminal justice and urban issues. In 1988 he took a leave of absence from the Baltimore Sun to write Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets. Simon has written for such award winning shows as NBC's "Homicide: Life on the Street" and HBO's "The Corner". He is currently writing and producing the third season of "The Wire".

Breath Books in Hampden will be selling a variety of books by the authors, with some of the proceeds benefiting Bolton Street Synagogue. The authors will be available for a book signing.

If you are interested in attending this not to be missed event, please contact events@boltonstreet.org or contact our administrator, Karen Brown at 410-235-5354.
