'Tis Better to Give…

Whether you're looking to express your congratulations for a simcha or condolences for a death, or whether you're just feeling in a generous mood, Bolton Street more than welcomes your contributions to its various funds. Here's a primer.

Operating Fund

This fund supplements the overall budget for running the synagogue-the nuts and bolts from postage to photocopying, from salaries to congregational gifts.

Religious School Fund

This fund contributes towards operating the religious school.

Relocation Fund

Monies in this fund are dedicated to the new building, its construction and furnishings.

Rabbi's Discretionary Fund

The Rabbi uses monies in the fund for books, conferences, helping out members when necessary or whatever else the Rabbi determines is necessary.

Cantor's Discretionary Fund

The Cantor uses monies in the fund for music, transliteration materials for services and whatever else the Cantor determines is necessary.

Scholarship Fund

This is for scholarships for the Religious School to be available for families who  need tuition assistance.

Hannah Schlessinger Memorial Fund

This fund was established in memory of Hannah, daughter of Kitty and Andy Schlessinger, who died in a car accident in 1998. Some of the monies will go for a reading area in the library in the new building.

Melvin Cohen Social Action Fund

Formed in memory of Melvin Cohen, a devoted member of BSS, who died in 1999, this fund pays for things like food bought to prepare meals for a homeless shelter.

President's Discretionary Fund

The President uses monies in the fund for things like flowers to sick members, helping out members in a pinch, in other words, whatever the president feels is important.

Music Fund

If you wish to support the inclusion and expansion of music in the life and ritual of our congregation, please consider a gift to this new fund.

20th Anniversary Fund

Bolton Street Synagogue will celebrate its 20th anniversary in June, 2006. There are still many purchases that need to be made - a playground, additional landscaping, more library books, computers for staff and students, a new Chuppa, and lobby furniture, just to mention a few items. We would like to start an endowment to assist with expenses and unbudgeted items in the future.

For those of you who would like to make stock or mutual funds contributions to the synagogue which may result in tax advantages for you, we have an account with Charles Schwab which makes it simple to process such donations.

For more information, please contact treasurer@boltonstreet.org.
